Computer expert plotted to blow up British Airways jet

A British Airways computer expert has been found guilty of plotting to blow up a jet plane bound for the United States.

Computer engineer Rajib Karim was found guilty of plotting to blow up a plane after conspiring with radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, a militant known to be associated with Al Qaeda.

The Crown Court in London was told the Bangladeshi national wanted to use his British Airways job to bring down the airline's computer system and leave it in financial chaos. Karim later offered to put an explosive package on a plane.

Karim had already admitted to producing a terrorist video and fundraising for terrorism abroad. He has now been found guilty of conspiracy charges. Karim tried to enrol as BA cabin crew in order to plant explosives or aid others to do so. Karim will be sentenced next month.
