Young solicitors in running for award

A company of solicitors jointly-run by one of the youngest partners in the UK is achieving solid success after just six months in business.

De Marco Hunter Solicitors was launched by Sandra Garlick and Lianne Payne as a partnership last October.

"We decided to fund everything ourselves which means we don't owe anybody a penny - but we can't take salaries yet," said 27-year-old Ms Payne.

Such has been their early success that she is a nominee for the Coventry Telegraph's Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Young Businessperson of the Year Award, while the firm is a contender for the BT Local Business Coventry & Warwickshire-backed Communications Technology in Business Award.

It has already quadrupled its workforce to eight people - and has just celebrated its first monthly profit.

Currently, De Marco Hunter specialises in commercial and employment law, conveyancing, litigation, disputes and debt recovery.

The partners constantly look for innovative ideas and technology applications to reduce the stress and paperwork of its day-to-day dealings.

One example is Papercase - a conveyancing programme using a green light system and text message alerts to enable all parties to track progress.
