Univerity offers quick legal management course
Solicitors seeking to acquire new skills to compete in the era of `Tesco law' are being offered help by Manchester Metropolitan University.
The university is teaming up with the Law Society to run the country's first one-year, part-time course in legal management. Since 2007 supermarkets, banks, vehicle breakdown firms and high street shops can offer some legal services such as conveyancing and wills.
David Amos, director of the university's legal practice course, said: "There was a time when a plaque over the door explaining your legal credentials was enough to bring cases. But in the light of these changes, that is simply not going to be enough.
"Traditional legal firms have the knowledge and expertise but need proper training to help them adapt to the changes."
