Law firm shows it's corporate confident

Law firm Hammonds is taking on a senior lawyer in its Leeds-based corporate team just months after recruiting another high-ranking legal eagle.

The firm said the appointment of Richard Hunt was evidence that it was continuing to ride out fears over the current economic climate by boosting its corporate team.

Mr Hunt joins the firm's 19-strong corporate team in Leeds as a senior associate from the Bradford law firm Gordons, which he joined in 2004 after qualifying in Hull.

A specialist in plc merger and acquisition (M&A), public equity and AIM transactions, Mr Hunt has been involved in a number of high profile local deals including advising Utrick Alexander on his sale of the Leeds-based Surfachem Group Ltd and advising project management firm PM Group plc on its £22.3m recommended cash offer from VIEC, a company owned by New York-listed Vishay.

His appointment follows the arrival a few months ago of Jo Stephenson from Ward Hadaway, where she specialised principally in plc M&A.
